Insofar as the two prompts are not identical, we cannot make a direct comparison between the visual and the textual data. However, we wanted to avoid prompts that would simply translate the visual into a textual medium, such as asking students to write a response to "what does a sociologist look like?" . To the extent that we wish to explore the quantitative differences between the modes of representation, the prompts must remain distinct; such that we cannot consider the two prompts equivalent (e.g. Chambers 1983; Mead and Mιtraux (1957). Further, as we detail below, when considering gender, drawings provide "mindless" responses that require little reflection (Langer 1989), while text allows and almost expects more negotiation with the implications of providing gendered representations. Thus, texts and drawings provided complementary but not inherently similar findings when "making sociologists visible" on a theoretical level - what Grady (1996) might call "seeing" - while each contributing to our understanding at an empirical level - what Grady (1996) calls "doing sociology visually".

Συνηθίζεται, ιδιαίτερα στα κομπιουτερικά, η μετάφραση του prompt ως προτροπή ή προτρεπτικό μήνυμα.
Ειδικότερα ωστόσο στην εκπαιδευτική διαδικασία ή και στις μελέτες της Μίνας, προτιμώ τη λέξη "ερέθισμα".

In most writing assessments, therefore, students are scored on the quality of the writing, therefore, not meticulous attention to following the directions of the prompt. For instance, a prompt might ask a student to write about a favorite or memorable place. A student might, as one did, write about the inside of his own mind - his imagination. Some people might argue that this is not a "place" in the sense that "New York" is a place. But such literal interpretation rarely seems as important as giving students every opportunity to respond creatively to a prompt and to show what they can do as writers.

Το "προτροπές" και το "προτρεπτικές ερωτήσεις" χρησιμοποιούνται και στη διδασκαλία.
Εδώ δεν βλέπω ποιες είναι οι two prompts. Μια πρόταση προς συμπλήρωση βλέπω μόνο...

Με ξύπνησε η Ελευθερία γιατί δεν είχα δει το ερώτημα για τη ζωγραφιά. "Προτρεπτικά ερωτήματα" ίσως, σκέτες ερωτήσεις που λέει ο Κώστας ή σκέτο ερωτήματα will do the job here.

Απάντηση στην Ελευθερία:
Prompt είναι κανονικά η υπενθύμιση που κάνει ο υποβολέας στον ηθοποιό που έχει ξεχάσει τα λόγια του ή ο δανειστής στον δανειζόμενο που καθυστερεί την εξόφληση.
Στους υπολογιστές ξεκίνησε από το DOS με το σημείο αναμονής εντολής (εκείνο το C:\ ) και έγινε στη συνέχεια οποιοδήποτε προτρεπτικό μήνυμα προς το χρήστη.
Στην εκπαίδευση είναι κάθε "ερέθισμα" προς το μαθητή για την παραγωγή αντίδρασης, συνήθως για την παραγωγή πιο ελεύθερης έκφρασης, συχνά για την παραγωγή γραπτού λόγου (αλλά όχι κατ' ανάγκην, απλώς η πηγή του παραπάνω ορισμού έχει να κάνει με writing assessments).
Στο κείμενο της Μίνας, τα δύο prompts είναι:
1. Then we asked them to "draw a sociologist", or alternately, to "draw a sociologist at work"
2. Please complete the following statement in your own words. Write at least a full paragraph, but do not write more than a page
Οι προτροπές του εξεταστή, ας πούμε, προς τον μαθητή να δώσει μια απάντηση. Όχι η απάντηση, το ερώτημα.
