Explanation: The sad fact is that unless we use the transliteration קנארד - The aviation professionals will have trouble to know what we refer to. For instance - כנפונים קדמיים is used by many to denote "leading edge slats", and כנפונים alone may lead the reader to think of "WINGLETS" or "SLATS" ("המונח העברי כנפון הוא רב משמעי. בחיל האוויר זה משמש כ- winglets ובלימודי התיאוריה שלי זה slats" sf.tapuz.co.il/shirshur-421-110790881.htm). Lastly - These are usually called כנפונים to denote their small size - but in many cases (like the XB-70 Valkyrie) they are too big to be named that way, so I prefer כנפי קנארד. Since the most commonly used "Hebrew" term is כנפי קנארד / כנפוני קנארד - It is proposed to use that transliteration together with it's source "כנפי ברווז" in commas. This is also the translation used by the Babylon dictionary. |
