הייתי אובד אולם עתה נמצאתי Explanation: once I was lost = hayiti oved: הייתי אובד but now I'm found = ulam ata nimtzeti אולם עתה נמצאתי -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 12 hrs 32 mins (2005-05-12 10:58:19 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I am still having trouble with \'found\'. Perhaps it should be ulam ata ani nimtza: אולם אתה אני נמצא - the problem with this is that it also means \'now I am present/located here, at a given place\'. Comments? -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 14 hrs 49 mins (2005-05-12 13:15:05 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Sorry, Hebrew spelling in my last note is incorrect: אולם עתה אני נמצא |

הייתי אבוד אך עכשיו מצאתי את עצמי Explanation: This translation is problematic because of several possible double meanings of the source. Eynats translation is RIGHT but has indeed a problem with the meaning, as explained. I am suggesting a bypass which could convey the right idea: מצאתי את עצמי (matsati et atsmi) which means I have found myself and is quite colloquial. If this is the wanted meaning, I would suggest two options: הייתי אובד אך עתה מצאתי את עצמי hayti oved ach ata matsati et atsmi OR Colloquial Hebrew which conveys an idea of being lost found morally, הייתי אבוד אך עכשיו מצאתי את עצמי (Hayti avud ach achshav matsati et atsmi) (which is I was lost but now I found myself). |
