This is no typo. This is the difference between US and UK (or S.A) English.
The US uses 'statute of limitations' whilst the UK (and SA) use prescription. In other words, instead of saying 'the statute of limitations may apply' (6 words) you can simply say "it has prescribed' (3 words).
