Explanation:
These are dialogue conventions. In English there's a difference between "pause" (longer) and "beat" (shorter).
In Hebrew, if memory serves, there's no distinct word for either, both are "שתיקה". But I can't be 100% sure, as my play-writing days go back a few decades.
