जबकि raffia का Genus है - Raphia
किंतु ये एक ही Family (Arecaceae) की वनस्पतियां हैं। इसलिए इन्हें राफिया ताड़ कहा जाना चाहिए।

कई लोग इन्हें भारत में पाये जाने वाले ताड़ से भिन्न करने के लिए राफिया पाम भी लिखते हैं। जैसे कि रॉयल पाम, बॉटल पाम को लिखा जाता है।

इनसे मिलने वाला रेशा राफिया ताड़ का रेशा कहा जाएगा। जहां लोग अच्छी तरह जानते हों, यानी जहां इनकी खेती की जाती हो या कारखाना हो वहां के लोगों के लिए सिर्फ राफिया ही लिखा जा सकता है।
