Terima kasih Pak Achmad dan Erich atas uraiannya.

Yg paling meragukan saya itu memang 'commit' karena struktur intransitifnya 'commit + to + noun', dan naskah sumber menyimpang dari struktur tsb.

Contoh:
Many companies are reluctant to commit to the new technology. [=to say that they will definitely use it]
They have not yet committed to a particular course of action.

Penyimpangan struktur intransitif dari 'commit' inilah yg mengganggu pemahaman saya.

Namun demikian, sekarang saya sepaham dg pemikiran Pak Achamd dan Erich. Terima kasih atas masukannya.

Menurut Merriam-Webster (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/commit), kata commit bisa intransitive:

Full Definition of COMMIT
intransitive verb
1 obsolete: to perpetrate an offense
2: to obligate or pledge oneself.

Sifat intransitif ini disokong kata depan with, sehingga ada empat pekerjaan:
1-compel the alleged offender,
2-threaten the alleged offender,
3-hire the alleged offender,
4-commit with the alleged offender by whatsoever mean.

Pada 3 pertama, the alleged offender adalah objek kata kerja, sementara pada ke-4, nomina ini menjadi objek kata depan.

Pak Hipyan: Frasa tersebut saya baca di entry oleh asker yang saya pahami sebagai konteksnya: Upon this notice of charges, neither did the inquiry official, who notified the charges to you, damage, destroy, cause depreciation of value or render useless the property belonging to alleged offender, nor did he compel, hire , threaten, or commit by whatsoever mean with the alleged offender with regard to this notice of charges. Menurut saya the alleged offender dapat dianggap obyek empat kata kerja tersebut.
