Mi sfugge una soluzione buona per rendere il senso, che pure afferro. Si sta parlando di una statua di Zeus:
The seated Zeus reached to the roof and held a statue of Nike on its outstretched right palm. Although it cramped the interior of the building, it was said by Quintilian to have "added something to religion" (virgolette dell'autore che cita Quintiliano, ma anche mie, perché tutto il resto ve lo do solo come contesto!).

Giove assiso raggiungeva il tetto e reggeva una statua di Nike nel palmo destro teso. Benché limitato (agli angusti spazi)all'interno dell'edificio, era definito da Quintiliano come "un utile (prezioso) contributo alla religione"
