garitte a struttura/pianta circolare Explanation: Visto il riferimento successivo alle finestre, spero sia possibile intendere "casement" (che in genere è l'intelaiatura di una finestra) come relativo all'architettura delle garitte. Casement non è decisamente riferito alle finestre, ma ha, tra le definizioni: a military casement, more commonly spelled casemate (a chamber in the thickness of the wall of a fortress, with embrasures). Visto che casamatta si associa a un'epoca decisamente più recente rispetto al periodo a cui risale la Torre di Belèm (XVI sec.), direi di restare su garitta, che già identifica uno scopo difensivo (rafforzato visivamente dalle aperture triangolari alla base delle torrette e quelle rettangolari più vicine al muro perimetrale, che offrivano altri 8 punti di osservazione oltre alla finestra "principale"). |
