"There was a potential weakness in this type of wall construction method, specifically at the junction of the shallow facing and the concrete core. Although the builders of Aurelian's wall used material for their facing with a long tail that could be well held by the core, as an extra security, one or several horizzontal bonding courses were also used at regular vertical intervals.

Questo metodo di costruzione aveva una potenziale debolezza, in particolare nella giunzione del rivestimento superficiale con il nucleo cementizio.
