inside city limits all’interno del centro urbano Explanation: I translated some American death certificates that said: - State - County - City or Town - Street and Number (address of home) - *Inside City Limits?* - Zip Code The question *inside city limits?* is related to the fact that in the USA an address that includes the name of a city does not necessarily mean that the residence actually lies within the city limits. Such home might be miles beyond the boundary of a city and still be identified with it, although the resident does not have access to services available to city residents. Also, a mailing address does not tell you if the property lies in the city limits. The United States Postal Service assigns city names to addresses according to the post office that delivers your mail (not whether you live within city limits). The issue is clearly explained in: How to Find Out If an Address Is Within the City Limits http://budgeting.thenest.com/out-address-within-city-limits-... This question makes no sense in Italy where the territory is divided in *comuni*, which are not equivalent to *cities*. If a person does not live inside the limits of a *comune* is because he lives in another *comune*. Consequently, the question about the city limits turns out to be senseless in Italian. I would solve this translation difficulty asking the more neutral: *All’interno del centro urbano?* |
