Please let me get rid of that! Go to Preferences panel and choose the Metadata panel. At the bottom of the panel you'll see an checkbox labeled Metadata Placard - uncheck it! Alternatively - look just to the right of the placard (top right corner of panel) and you should see a small icon - click it and above preference is one of the listed options.
