Il fatto che il Certified PDF module agisce come una firma digitale (come md5 per esempio) significa che è un hash del documento pdf. Un hash è una funzione del contenuto di un file che garantisce l'integrità del file stesso.

In seguito ad ogni modifica di un file, infatti, la funzione hash fornisce un risultato diverso.

Di conseguenza, a seguito di ogni modifica del file pdf, il Certified PDF module che contiene il vecchio hash deve essere cancellato per essere aggiornato col nuovo hash.

Explanation:
In questo contesto significa che deve di nuovo essere sottoposto alle verifiche preliminari (preflight) del modulo Certified PDF e superarle tutte con esito positivo.

Nel modulo Certified PDF incluso ad esempio in Enfocus PitStop, si possono impostare tutta una serie di verifiche (definizione dei vari page box, se i font sono incorporati o meno, se il documento contiene colori CMYK o RGB, se la risoluzione delle immagini è sufficiente, ecc.) in base alle esigenze di produzione. Superati tutti questi controlli, il documento PDF viene dichiarato "certificato" e può passare alle successive fasi del flusso di lavoro (stampa finale).
Se però dopo tale verifica il file viene modificato, la certificazione non può più essere ritenuta valida e il documento deve quindi essere sottoposto di nuovo alla procedura di preflight.

Vedi anche l'ultima frase del testo che riporti: "[...] after the PDF has cleared pre-flight during certification." dove "cleared" è usato con questo stesso significato
