Al link indicato come primo riferimento ho trovato questa descrizione:
Il complesso proteico G è un eterotrimero di cui la subunità alfa è in grado di legare i nucleotidi guanilici e possiede attività GTPasica.

Ho visto che solitamente si parla più semplicemente di "proteine G" (si trovano numerosi link in rete che forniscono dettagli, inclusa una voce su Wikipedia, tanto per dirne una).
