Film ambientato in inghilterra nell'ottocento. Due signorine parlano del rapporto che esiste tra figli e genitori: i padri sono più legati alle figlie e le madri ai figli e una di loro dice: "So maybe we shouldn't be too hard on old battleaxe Thornton!" Si riferisce a una signora molto legata al figlio ma che ha appunto un carattere forte...è autoritaria, severa e un pò bisbetica. Non riesco a trovare niente di soddisfacente.

...in ricordo di mia nonna che chiamavamo così per la sua assoluta e petrea irremovibilità ecc. sia verso i quattro figli sia verso quell'omettino di mio nonno, un vero babà che angelicamente consegnava ogni mese lo stipendio e viveva (per sua fortuna) inventando aggeggi e macchinari che non poteva mai brevettare per assenza di valsente.
