So che esiste arch of the foot, ma leggendo le caratteristiche del foot core credo sia l'unica traduzione plausibile; di seguito ti spiego perché. Nel paper che stai traducendo si fa riferimento alla stabilità del piede nonché alle azioni correttive per il "foot core", in modo da garantire una maggiore stabilità e una postura corretta. Ci sono due parti del testo (entrambe a pag. 7) che, nello specifico, mi fanno pensare ad "arco plantare" come unica soluzione possibile in italiano: 1) Barefoot/minimal footwear walking and running may be used as a training tool to strengthen the foot core system; 2) we hope we have increased the awareness of the importance of the foot core, making up our arch, to overall foot function. Si riferisce dunque, indubbiamente, alla parte centrale del piede, il core appunto, quella compresa tra le dita e il calcagno e corrispondente più o meno al metatarso (termine con cui si definisce esclusivamente la parte ossea). Proprio questa parte è soggetta a patologie che interessano stabilità e postura (vedasi il famoso "piede piatto"). Contribuisce a far chiarezza anche la figura a pag. 7 in cui vengono confrontati un relaxed foot core e un contracted foot core; come si vede, è proprio l'arco plantare, cioè la parte centrale del piede, ad essere interessata e a subire le variazioni descritte.
