Plexus refers to a network of nerve fibres.
In the human body we find the Plexus cervicobrachialis und lumbosacralis.
Because the cervical plexus has no connection with the brachial plexus, the individual plexuses are mentioned, in contrast to the Plexus lumbosacralis where there is a connection between the Plexus lumbalis and Plexus sacralis.
The brachial plexus is responsible for innervation of the muscles and sensitivity of the shoulder and arm.
It forms the Rr. ventrales of the spinal nerve roots C5 to T1 and belongs to the somatic plexuses like the other plexuses mentioned.
They contrast with the autonomic nervous plexuses.
