si tratta di un racconto di fantascienza, Il protagonista sta guardando attraverso una superficie tipo vetro su cui sono comparse alcune scintille/schegge di luce che, come gocce d'acqua, si sono unite a formare una superficie argentea.
Il concetto che si vuole trasmettere è che, nonostante fuori ci fosse un sole brillante, questa massa di luce argentata riluce al punto tale da oscurare la luce stessa del sole.
Non riesco a rendere al meglio questo passaggio.

Non so che stile hai utilizzato per il resto del racconto, ma io lo renderei così, evitando il riferimento alla porta perché rischia di appesantire la frase.

Il pezzo che hai riportato dovrebbe più o meno suonare così, alle mie orecchie:
"Altre schegge apparvero e si unirono alla forma/massa più grande, guizzando come luce che si riversa in una stanza buia, benché fosse pieno giorno"
