Winnicott’s notion of analysis as play is utilized by Ferro in terms of the shifting, mutually influencing sequence of narratives of patient and analyst that gradually link narrative truth with historical truth, the session as make believe with emotional truth of the patient, and that facilitate the gradual transformation of serious distortions (including potential lies) into truth. The patient’s reactions to the interpretations may be by means of distortion or rejection, or an effective transformation of deeper layers of his experience, sometimes expressed in dreaming about interpretations. The analyst may transform, a posteriori, a narrative history in terms of a patient’s reactions to an original narrative.

Explanation:
Il testo dice in sintesi che processo analitico conduce a far coincidere la storia del paziente come da lui narrata - dunque con le sue distorsioni etc etc - con la "verità storica", dunque mediante le interpretazioni dell'analista ai racconti del paziente e alle sue reazioni a queste, la storia raccontata diventa alla fine un racconto originario, cioè la situazione narrata prova di distorsioni soggettive. Certo, racconto originario suona pessimamente ma il senso mi pare sia questo.
