Si tratta di una breve biografia dello psicologo americano B. F. Skinner, noto come importante esponente del Comportamentismo e la frase completa è: "...Skinner gained some measure of public attention through his invention of the Air-Crib, a large, soundproof, germ-free, air-conditioned box designed to serve as a mechanical baby tender, supposed to provide an optimal environment for child growth during the first two years of life." Qualcuno sa dirmi se esiste una traduzione per "mechanical baby tender"? Ringrazio in anticipo tutti!
Explanation: Culla non può essere valido fino ai due anni di vita..se per 'tender' intendi qualcuno che si prende cura o carico di qualcun altro, come ho trovato al sito in link: tender n. 1. a person who attends to or takes charge of someone or something.
Mi stavo domandando se forse non si potrebbe usare "cameretta"..."cameretta tecnologica/automatizzata"
In effetti, nel testo dell'asker, si spiega già cos'è, "a large, soundproof, germ-free, air-conditioned box" e poi si aggiunge che è "designed to serve as a mechanical baby tender, " questa "scatola" è stata ideata per servire da "cameretta"?? o "nursery"...
nursery dà forse più l'idea del prendersi cura, ma dipende molto a chi è rivolto il testo e forse è un po' strano tradurre un termine inglese con un altro termine inglese!
In questo testo che aveva trovato Luciana c'è in effetti il riferimento alla "baby-sized room"...

babysitter/tata/balia e quant'altro comunicano un'idea sbagliata in italiano.... si tratta chiaramente di un luogo, le numerose foto sono esplicite. Cosa avessero avuto in mente quando in inglese hanno scritto "tender" bisognerebbe chiederlo agli "autori". Il nostro compito è tradurre in italiano in modo che convogli l'idea di quello che è. Ed è un box, nessuna "tata". Poi sul termine più adeguato si può anche andare avanti a ragionare (per chi ha tempo e voglia).
addirittura "bin"... che come termine, insomma, ha delle associazioni non proprio positive... Scherzi a parte, avevo visto anche io delle foto... il problema è come interpretare quel "tender"...Secondo Shera, che è madrelingua, andrebbe interpretato in senso figurato, come "babysitter"...
Di fatto è un luogo dove la bambina trascorre gran parte del suo tempo, non solo per dormire: è un po' come se fosse la sua "cameretta"....(mi viene la claustrofobia solo a pensarci...) quindi anche "culla" è un po' riduttivo...
Per "navicella", il mio dubbio è che faccia pensare a bambini molto piccoli... mi sembra si usi a proposito di carrozzine..
Però temo che "nursery" non si capisca..insomma, per ora la mia mente è avvolta nel dubbio....(però almeno non è rinchiusa in questo tender!!)
Si tratta, in effetti, proprio di un luogo, per questa ragione concordo con Danila per quel che riguarda "culla" e ho trovato anche che altrove viene chiamato "navicella per bambini", come ho suggerito io nelle risposte. Nel link qui di seguito c'è un'immagine del "baby tender" che è chiamato anche "bin" :

solo che non capisco perché in questo articolo, dicano spesso "in his tender", come se si trattasse di un luogo... Pensi che possa trattarsi di un uso diverso di tender, nel senso di "luogo in cui ci si prende cura di un bambino", un po' come il tender per le navi che porta gli approvvigionamenti? Quindi, forse "nursery" automatizzata?

Stavo per passare ad altro quando nella videata di prima ho visto questo che credo metta una pietra sopra alla "tata meccanica"...
per esempio dice proprio "in his tender"...

però che uso particolare di "tender" ...forse sarebbe meglio chiedere ai madrelingua nella sezione English-English...
Era un battuta, quella sul femminismo! Comunque, se leggi l'articolo, Skinner ripete spesso che vuole anche alleggerire il lavoro della madre... non so, non mi sento di escludere del tutto l'interpretazione della baby sitter, perché "tender" ha un significato abbastanza specifico...solo che adesso non ho tempo per rifletterci meglio...
in ogni caso, non è che "culla" è un po' limitativo..la bimba passava tanto tempo lì.. forse "nursery" ma in italiano temo non si capirebbe..
Le virgolette qui non ci sono, sarebbe una forzatura. Come spiega anche il tuo link si trattava soprattutto di tenere il bambino caldo e protetto (all'epoca e dove stavano loro non c'erano tutti gli ausili e tecnologie che abbiano noi, forse neanche il riscaldamento). Sarà pure stato "femminista" , ma non dimentichiamoci che ha inventato la sua Skinner box e che è stato il fondatore del comportamentismo - una visione molto riduttiva e semplificata dell'essere umano.

qui per esempio dicono che uno degli scopi di Skinner era di facilitare le cose ai genitori...magari si potrebbe mettere "balia" fra virgolette...
