Si parla di una ragazza che cerca di piacere al suo datore di lavoro, ma non sono convinta che le due espressioni siano necessarmiente connesse. Qualche idea? Grazie

Io direi così, sottintendendo che cerca di ingraziarsi qualcuno con un sorriso. L'altra frase che citi la interpreto come "il padre che non sapeva resistere ad un sorriso", il che avrebbe senso: visto che con il padre bastava un sorriso per ottenere ciò che voleva, ci prova anche con il figlio. Forse potrebbe andare anche "tentò il trucco del sorriso"

Credo di ricordare che "sucker" oltre che "sfigato" può significare anche "adulatore/leccapiedi" (da "suck up to"). Non cambia il mio suggerimento ("sorriso adulatore" non mi piace), ma può darti altri spunti. Ciao!

Io direi così, sottintendendo che cerca di ingraziarsi qualcuno con un sorriso. L'altra frase che citi la interpreto come "il padre che non sapeva resistere ad un sorriso", il che avrebbe senso: visto che con il padre bastava un sorriso per ottenere ciò che voleva, ci prova anche con il figlio. Forse potrebbe andare anche "tentò il trucco del sorriso"

Non tanto quello della babbea o credulona (ineccepibile) quanto quello che avrebbe fatto diventare credulone l'altro: un sorriso, per dirla con Michelangelo Antonioni, "tecnicamente dolce".
Quanto al padre, "sucker for a smile", un padre che avrebbe fatto carte false per avere un sorriso. Se averlo per sé o per regalarlo, questo non saprei...
