Sto traducendo un articolo che parla di democrazia e politica ed ad un certo punto parla delle opinioni delle "sophisticated people": "... has confirmed many "sophisticated people" in their view that democracy..."

Non so se renderlo come "addetti ai lavori", "gente di mondo", "intellettuali" o come?

Forse l'accezione italiano non e' poi così neutra come in inglese ma a mio avviso questa e' la versione che più si avvicina al testo inglese. Forse potrebbe essere di aiuto anche l'opinione che segue per rendere la definizione piu' neutrale.

forse anche solo "elite"... se dal contesto si capisce che queste persone in qualche modo si elevano al di sopra delle altre...

il vantaggio di "elite" è che richiama sia l'aspetto intellettuale che quello economico che "sophisticated" potrebbe avere in alcuni casi:
