Salve, mi trovo a tradurre in un'autobiografia questa frase. Premetto che l'autrice racconta la sua esperienza di lavoro con i senzatetto e del suo approccio ematico con queste persone.

Questa la frase
However, as a society, we need to nourish the souls of those who have become acclimatised to their own pain, beyond just bricks and mortar.

Il senso mi e' chiaro: non basta dare loro fisicamente un posto dove stare, dobbiamo curare le loro anime ma non so bene come rendere quel brick and mortar. in inglese e' un modo di dire ma non e' altrettanto immediato in italiano.

Ecco cosa ho provato a mettere
Tuttavia, come società, dobbiamo nutrire le anime di quelli che si sono abituati al loro dolore, oltre a mattoni e cemento (so che sarebbe malta ma mi sembra ancora più strano)

Explanation:
Secondo me va un po' rimaneggiata.
Tuttavia, come società, dobbiamo nutrire le anime di coloro che si sono ormai assuefatti al proprio dolore, e non limitarci a mettere loro un tetto sulla testa.

bricks and mortar = mura di cemento e mattoni ... ma anche calore umano, etc

... volta c'erano due muri di mattoni ai bordi dei disegni, come se per lui la realtà ormai fosse rinchiusa all'interno di mura di cemento e mattoni.

Tradurre letteralmente il modo di dire in italiano non mi sembra efficace, quindi io tradurrei così, o, come hai detto tu, "oltre a dare/fornire loro quattro mura".
