Hexanes, chloroform, (anhydrous ACS grade), and methanol, acetonitrile (anhydrous HPLC grade) were obtained from the Fisher Scientific Company. These solvents were not repurified or redistilled. Water used in chromatography experiments refers to in-house deionized water passed through a Millipore 4 cartridge reagent grade water system (10 mega ohm Milli-Q water). Sephadex LH-20 was from Pharmacia LKB, Uppsala, Sweden. Dicalite (diatomaceous earth) was manufactured by Grefco Minerals, Torrance, Calif. LiChroprep Si 60, 25-40 .mu.m was from EM Separations, NJ, a U.S. associate of E. Merck, Germany.

「(Dicaliteの)フィルター・パッド」で一番分かりやすいと思います。
本来はDicaliteは Grefco Minerals, Inc. と言う会社の子会社だそうです。

そして、Dicalite の製品の一つはフィルター用材料の
Diatomaceous Earth の粉です。但し、Ikuyoさんの例の文に
会社名のDicaliteが一般的に当製品の名前にもなってしまっているらしいです。
もう一つの例を挙げます:

この使い方(会社名が銘柄になること)は英語でよくあります。
日本はそうかどうか覚えていませんが、アメリカでは「Kleenex」という
ティッシュ メーカー名はただ「ティッシュ」の意味と等しくなっています。
もう1つの例は「Sawzall」という往復鋸 (reciprocating saw).
Milwaukieと言う会社の製品なのに、現在どんなメーカーでもそんな
タイプの商品は皆一般的に「Sawzall」と呼んでいます。
