無用の長物、大嘘だらけ Explanation: I don't think this expression is anything to do with Fire Service nor NVQ (by the way what is NVQ?), but it is downright colloquial. To me this seems same as "full of useless things", or "bunch of baloney" thus my translation above. The first one (muyou no choubutsu) means useless things, the second (oouso darake) means bunch of craps (craps as you know are lies, or boasting). More context is necessary in order to arrive accurate Japanese counterparts. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2004-06-28 18:54:36 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- 大風呂敷 (oo-burosiki) could be another option. This is a very colloquial expression which means ¥"tall story¥" or ¥"boasting¥" .... essentially bunch of lies but not necessary meant for personal gains. (added after Kurt¥'s comment). |
