BIシステムでは、データ集計の範囲が大きな単位（年）だと粒度が粗い、小さな単位（日）だと粒度が細かい、といった使い方をするようです。

データの粒度(数値データの集計単位)に応じて、業務システムのデータを集計して、ファクトテーブルのためのロード用ファイルを作成するというものでした。
