A and/or B という表現の意味は、A and B も、A or B も含まれます。「AとBの両方」かもしれないし、「Aだけ」「Bだけ」のどちらかかもしれない、そういうときに用いられます。上の例で言うと、買主がその製品に関して保有している権利は、知的財産権と工業所有権の両方かもれないし、知的財産権だけかもしれないし、工業所有権かもしれない、ということです。場合によってはややこしくなるので、and /or の使用を好まない人もいるのですが、それでも頻繁に使用されます。訳すときは、そこで意味されることをしっかり理解しつつ、「および／または」とするしかありません。
