水と淡水の境のことを淡塩フロントと言います。その海側の境のことを塩水フロントと呼ぶようです。　　潮の満ち引き等によって、塩水フロントは移動したり、塩水フロントに底質が巻き上げられ、高濁度塩水フロントが形成されます。　アスカーさんのリンク先はこの塩水フロントのことを示しているようです。

as the furthest upstream ・・・とありますので、上記のことであろうし、「塩水フロント」で、google検索してもかなりの数でヒットしますよ。　潮の満ち引き等によって、塩水フロントが移動します。　　

Ｔulipさんの使われている「前線」は海洋気象学の用語には違いありませんが、それは黒潮（温水）と親潮（冷水）の混合域東北海区にある海面下に著しい2すじの水温前線、南部のものは黒潮前線，北部のものは親潮前線というように使われています。　

但しそれも「親潮フロント」としている文献が多いようです。　淡水、塩水の場合は、「淡水フロント部」、「塩水フロント」などが多くヒットします。　

内容を見ると、塩分の少ない淡水に対して、「海水（海の水）」を使うよりは、「塩水」を使うのが相応しいですし、また「塩水」の方を使ってますね。特に河口付近ですので、「塩水」を使うのが良いでしょう。
