Explanation:
The ordinary way of saying it.

'Ego' would be appropriate if the context implied emphasis or contrast, so that 'ego rex sum' = '[It is] I [who] am king', 'I [and not you] am king', etc.

Likewise, the earlier a word occurs in a sentence or clause, the more it tends to be emphatic in some way. Thus 'rex sum' has the nuance 'I am KING [not some lesser personage]', while 'sum rex' suggests 'I AM king' [despite some suggestion that I'm not].

Word order plays a large part in the meaning of Latin sentences, even simple ones. It must be taken into account.
