commit sins to the extent you can endure to the hellfire Pecca quatenus ignes Tartareos perferre possis Explanation: Lit., 'Sin to the extent you can endure the fires of Tartarus'. 'Tartareos' may be replaced with 'Gehennae', if a more specifically Christian reference of punishment is wanted. |

commit sins to the extent you can endure to the hellfire Pecca quatenus toleraturus esse ignes inferni possis Explanation: Hello. peccata can mean a sin as a passive participle. It is literally "something done wrong". But you can use the intransitive verb pecco, -are, -avi, -atum as a command in this sentence. In english you can't see the future sense of the statement, but the modal "can" and context can give you such a message. So I used tolerare in active futurum infinitive. And the posse is in subjunctive 2nd singular as this is not implying a fact. And also if you want to add colour to the sentence by symbolism. You can actually change the word "ignes" to word "tormentum/tormenta", which means literally instrument of torture. So it will be more fitting to a context like religion. |
