A windbreak or shelterbelt is a plantation usually made up of one or more rows of trees or shrubs planted in such a manner as to provide shelter from the wind and to protect soil from erosion.

"Meža" definīcija attiecas uz kokaudzētavām un sēklu ieguves plantācijām, kas ir meža sastāvdaļa; meža ceļiem, izcirtumiem, ugunsdrošības joslām un citiem mazas atklātas platības mežiem; mežiem nacionālajos parkos, dabas rezervātos un citos aizsargātos apgabalos, piemēram, uz kuriem attiecas īpašas vides, zinātniskas, vēsturiskas, kultūras vai garīgas intereses; vējlauzējjoslām un koku aizsargjoslām ar platību, kas ir lielāka nekā 0,5 ha un kuras platums ir lielāks nekā 20 m. Ir iekļautas kaučukaugu plantācijas un korķozola audzes. Tomēr "meža" definīcija neattiecas uz – zemi, kas dominējoši tiek izmantota lauksaimniecības praksē;
