English term or phrase: no breakover
Fault in a thyratron includes “no cutoff” and “no breakover”.
The thyratron which is not cutoff is more common mainly because the thyratron has long been in use, reaching its life end or the filament voltage (voltage of hydrogen generator) is not enough. When a thyratron is “no cutoff”, very small pulse HV (possibly trigger the HVDC fault), no or very low pulse current or no dose may happen in the ACC. system. In this case, one can raise the filament voltage of the thyratron to a reasonable degree to solve it. If voltage-raising failed, the thyratron must be replaced. Moreover, in case of a thyratron “no breakover”, the HV circuit of the ACC. does not discharge and so the pulse HV and pulse current are zero. When “no breakover” occurs, one may first check the triggering signal and the grid voltage on the trigger panel of the thyratron is normal. If other parameters are ok, then it is problem of the thyratron which should be replaced.
