En rettet ladning består i prinsippet av en beholder som ere delt i to rom ved en konus eller kjegle av metall med høy spesifikk vekt og lavt smeltepunkt. Et rom øverst for sprengstoff og ett vantett luftrom nærmest sprengstoffobjektet. Fig 4.

Sprengstoff bringes til detonasjon ved et initieringsmiddel som plasseres sentralt i toppen av ladningen. En rettet ladning virker etter "Monroe-prinsippet" ved at detonasjonskraften blir konsentrert i en bestemt retning.
