English term or phrase: mil thickness
Tekst dot. polimerów. Kilkakrotnie występuje w nim termin 'mil thickness' w kontekście nieograniczonej czy też dowolnej grubości, jaką można uzyskać, natryskując dany polimer na podłoże. Nie wiem, dlaczego nie użyto po prostu 'thickness'? Czy chodzi o jakąś konkretną własność polimeru? Wiem, że 'mil' to 'milical', tylko po co tak to komplikować. Przecież pisanie o 'grubości w milicalach' albo 'milicalowej' jest bez sensu. Tzn. miałoby to sens, gdyby była podana konkretna wartość, ale producent wyraźnie podkreśla dowolność 'unlimited mil thickness in one application', 'virtually any mil thickness to be applied' itd. Będę wdzięczny za pomoc.

Mimo, że jest dowolna ta długość.
W Anglii, pracując kiedyś w salonie z meblami kuchennymi, na codzień stykałam się z tym skrótem jeśli chodzi o milimetry. Nigdy nie mówiono "milimetry", zawsze "mil", 600 mil, etc.
