A downline is a long hydraulic hose that is used to actuate hydraulic devices under water from a hydraulic pump on the deck of a ship(top-side) . The hose (down line) is generally stored on a reel on the ship and one end of the hose(normally attached to a tool) is lowered over the side of a ship and down to a diver working below the surface of the water.
