The nouns 'zakażenie' ('infection')* and 'zarażenie' ('infestation')* are alternately used in everyday speech which is not correct from the medical point of view, as Prof. Mirosław Bańko** stated in an interview:

Z medycznego punktu widzenia powinniśmy mówić, że człowiek jest 'zakażony' koronawirusem, 'zakaził się' koronawirusem. 'Zarażenie' medycyna pozostawia dla pasożytów, czyli np. można 'zarazić się' owsikami lub być 'zarażonym' tasiemcem.

So, it is correct to say that: I have been 'zakażony' by the coronavirus. And it confirmes what (*) underlines: in the polish medical terminology for viruses we use the word 'zakażenie' and not 'zarażenie':

Zakażenie (infection):
Inwazja tkanek organizmu przez czynnik zakaźny nienależnie od tego, czy wywołuje chorobę. W przyjętej w Polsce terminologii zakażenie dotyczy bakterii, wirusów i grzybów, natomiast w przypadku pasożytów używane jest określenie zarażenie. (*)

The problem is that there is also a noun 'zaraza' (epidemic, plague, pest) that is very close to this noun 'zarażenie' and the verb 'zarazić' (infect, contaminate) and this is why there is a bit of confusion even amongst professionals. (**)
