'The idea of giving thanks is a strange one. There are not many things in life that, when given, need nothing to be given or taken in return, but gratuity is one. Pytanie zadałam już w języku angielskim, rozgorzała dyskusja, pojawiły się dwie szkoły (1. powinno być 'gratitude', 2. gratuity odnosi się do bezinteresownej pomocy wszystkich bliskich autora). Można przeczytać tutaj http://www.proz.com/kudoz/english/other/6382748-gratuity.htm...
Zdanie pojawia się w podziękowaniach, powiem szczerze, że mam trochę mętlik, im więcej o tym myslę. Jestem ciekawa waszej opinii, może jak ktoś spojrzy na to świeżym okiem, czym tak naprawdę jest tutaj 'gratuity' (nie sądze, że to błąd jak sugerują inni, w książce pojawia się wiele nietypowych sformułowań i zastosowań słów, taki styl)

However, if we also include the less-known meaning of gratuity as
"something given without claim or obligation"
(http://www.thefreedictionary.com/gratuity), then the gift of the heart (dar serca) should cover that meaning too.
