Oi..claro que entendo a expressão. O problema é que no contexto, a personagem diz ter derrotado o cão, Cérbero, da mitologia:
If this dog thought he could defeat me,
he was barking up the wrong tree.

Então, essa expressão teria que ser algo relativo a cães.
Como normalmente a tradução é algo do tipo: falando com a pessoa errada, batendo na porta errada etc., não dá p/ fazer o link com o fato de ser cão.
Alguém sugere algo?
