English term or phrase: Bump caps

In addition to hard hats, bump caps should also be made available to all workshop personnel. The wearing of bump caps is only permitted in areas not designated as hard hat areas. Loose clothing that can become caught on rotating machinery or protruding parts must be avoided. Overalls with elasticated wrists are preferred.

Requirements of ANSI Z89.1-1986

Before we go any further, it is important to understand the difference between hard hats and bump caps. Bump caps do not abide by the ANSI guidelines and are not suitable for occupations or applications where an ANSI-compliant hard hat is required by the OSHA.

Bump caps have seamless one-piece design that is made of LDPE or low density polyethylene or plastic. This type of head protection is especially designed with a lightweight shell and with no suspension system. The main purpose of wearing a bump cap is to protect the head from bumps or minor injuries. It is intended to be worn in an area that has low head clearance or low hanging machineries. Bump caps are ideal to be worn at areas or work environments that include automotive repair, meter reading, food processing, pest control, maintenance departments, and also truck drivers.
