English term or phrase: drown aways
In the song "Keep Fishin'", the band Weezer uses this term and I'm not sure how I should translate it. It looks like an adjective, but adjectives have no plural form!
Reading the song and analyzing its theme (a man who was left by his girlfriend), it seems to me that it's something like "defeated".

Here are the lyrics:

You'll never be
A better kind
If you don't leave
The world behind

Waste my days
Down the ways (drown aways)

It's just the thought of you
In love with someone else
It breaks my heart to see you
Hangin' from your shelf

You'll never do
The things you want
If you don't move
And get a job

Oh girl, when I'm in love with you
Keep fishin' if you feel it's true
There's nothin' much that we can do
To save you from yourself

Some notes: see you hanging from the shelf - the girl is untouchable for him now
Keep fishing - don't give up; if one fish escaped your fishhook, another one may appear at any moment!
