Shipper - numele exportatorului Consignee - numele importatorului/părții care primește marfa Notify - în majoritatea cazurilor este același cu Consignee. Detaliile se stabilesc în avans și sunt prevăzute în acreditivul documentar (L/C) care acoperă contractul. Având in vedere că un Bill of Lading reprezintă titlul de proprietate asupra mărfurilor, în majoritatea cazurilor întreg setul de conosamente originale circulă prin canal bancar, în cadrul unui acreditiv. Acreditivul nu permite eliberarea documentelor conforme decât contra plății.
