Management
English term or phrase: cookie cutter approach
The ingredients in establishing and maintaining computer labs include determining the purpose and function of the lab; hardware and software needs; and infrastructure support. This paper outlines an approach to provide a recipe in establishing and maintaining labs. This approach attempts to lessen the guesswork and allows the lab manager to make more precise determinations when allocating resources.I have been managing computer labs for several years at Oklahoma State University and have developed a ***cookie cutter approach*** to implementing and managing computer lab facilities. This approach has simplified the process by defining the key ingredients needed whether it's implementing a new facility or just upgrading an existing one.The three basic ingredients necessary to deliver satisfying results are budget, labor, and materials. Short-term and long-term costs and expenses for execution and continual maintenance of the facility characterize budget. Expenses are equipment rollover, training of the support team, consumables, software updates, etc.Labor is defined both internally and externally.

"A cookie cutter is a device used to maintain a consistent pattern of cookies cut from dough. A "cookie-cutter approach" describes any attempt at replicating or maintaining consistency of an effort or program."

".....He let me know that he loved our church. But the thing that shocked him the most was the fact that we were a Baptist church. Indeed, he told me that we were unlike any Baptist church he had ever seen. He had visited several over the years, and the word he used to describe his experiences was an interesting one … “cookie cutter.” His experience, for the most part, in Baptist churches had pretty much been the same. He saw it is “predictable.” After he visited in our worship, he felt compelled to call home and talk to his former pastor to get the “low down” on this “new generation” Baptist stuff. Was it legit? Could he trust it?"

".......At the other end of the comments to the CNN article, you can find people with an unrealistic image of India. I suppose many of them are tired of hearing about Indian family values and how the country is forging ahead on economic terms. So they readily jump on a story like this because it fits that tiresome, Orientalist myth of a superstitious India torn apart by its blind beliefs. The problem here is perception of information. Many people and I'm not sure whether this is the effect of poor schooling, see black for black and white for white. Boys and girls, life isn't a cookie-cutter."
