Ejection grooves are produced during demoulding. They mainly occur on structured surfaces. There is a correlation between the surface structure, the wall thickness and the draft, which influences the demoulding of structured surfaces. In the case of unfavourable geometric conditions, changes to the processing parameters will not achieve the desired results. Figure 1.2.3 shows the principle correlation between the wall thickness and the shrinkage. Due to the lower wall thickness, ejection grooves may appear in the lower periphery at identical drafts. In the case of excessive mould deformations, ejector grooves may also appear on the lateral surfaces. The reason is the weak dimensioning of the injection mould cross-wise with regard to the direction of closing. Predestined for this are parts with larger lateral surfaces (see figure 1.2.4) or sliders and an insufficient lateral support of the cavity. In many cases the only remedy is a stiffer mould.
