отбросить врага Explanation: Other possibilities, depending on the context (it is difficult to suggest anything when there is no context at all!): отбить / отразить (атаку) дать отпор (врагу) |

отбить атаку [противника] Explanation: Если это лишь эпизод боя, когда враг нападает, а мы в обороне. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 38 mins (2013-01-05 15:48:27 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Если «noun phrase», то, пожалуй, «отбитая атака [противника]». |

оборонительная операция Explanation: Я попробовала перевести этот финский термин на французский язык. Получилось - bataille de défense или "оборонительная операция" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2013-01-05 19:58:15 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Огромное спасибо коллеге за уточнение. Более верно будет употребить термин "оборонительный бой" http://www.stjag.ru/index.php/2012-02-08-10-30-47/тактика-ве... |

враг отброшен / отбит / отражен Explanation: i am doing similar tactical translations right now. what i did is i looked at what terms were used in target language (in military documents) that gave, by far the most accurate results. anyway, since i am translating from Russian to English i encountered these terms. david |
