Мне кажется, что они должны буть использованы для поиска и создания какого то музыкального фона/тона/звука (для последующей записи)
"a certain sound that I want to aim for with it"
Вряд ли нужно много магнитофонов ( а в тексте - plural). Помимо этого магнитофон все-таки "tape-recorder"
