Встречался ли кто-нибудь с этим термином в теме перелетов или счетах за транспортные услуги?
В моем случае контекст минимален. Одна из позиций в счете включает всего три строки:

На форумах полно толкований этого термина, среди которых вот такое: A “trip in vain” is an AIRLINE JARGON TERM referring to a trip that is so delayed that you miss out on the reason why you took the trip in the first place e.g. a trip “in vain.” Airlines have procedures to refund, issue credits, or allow future use for trip-in-vain type tickets. Perhaps the best example would be a trip booked for a business trip. If someone was catching a flight out to Boston for a meeting at 3 p.m. but something caused the flight to be delayed until an 8 p.m. arrival, this would fall under “trip in vain.” This would most likely fall under “trip in vain,” and would entitle to you a full refund.
Не знаю, какой жаргонизм или профессионализм в ходу среди туроператоров, но пока ничего, кроме УПУЩЕННОГО РЕЙСА, мне в голову ничего не приходит. Возможно, ситуация возникла по вине пассажира, раз они взимают доплату отдельно (80 евро). Как считаете?

Не встречал такой термин, но перевел бы так.
В тех же объяснениях пишут, что это дает право требовать компенсации от авиакомпании, а не наоборот :)
