Tech/Engineering - Telecom(munications) / Digital TV
English term or phrase: bands
Digital television (DTV) is a new, advanced broadcasting technology. One of the main reasons this new technology is introduced to the world as a new broadcasting standard is to free up parts of the broadcast spectrum, becoming overly crowded with multitude of various frequencies. The governments across the globe have mandated the switch to digital over the course of the next couple of years. Since the digital signal takes up considerably less space in the spectrum than the conventional analog signal, the extra room/bands will be used in the future for emergency services and public service communication like police, fire, medical and more new, interactive services that the future will bring such as broadband wireless.
