Sve ribe iz ove familije su mesozderi i uglavnom se razlikuju po boji krljusti, te im otuda i nazivi. Ovo nalazim i u M-W recniku.

Moze se naci i naziv AFRICKA RIBA HALAPLJIVICA, jer je izuzetno agresivna, jakih zuba i ostre krljusti.Kidise na mnoge zive vrste, pa je popularno zovu i predator.

I druge vrste iz iste familije, poput kornjaca (snapping turtles) spadaju u grupu halapljivaca ili predatora.

African cubera snapper or Guinean snapper (Lutjanus agennes)

A species unique to the tropical western coast of Africa, this impressive predator grows to in excess of 60kg and is commonly caught to 30-40kg. The cubera is ubiquitous, from offshore reefs, to the surf zone and into the mangroves; they can be expected anytime, anywhere.
