Glyphosate and glufosinate are now options for postmergence weed control in herbicide-resistant corn and soybean. Velvetleaf is one of the more difficult to control annual weeds with these herbicides at commonly used rates. Ammonium sulfate (AMS) is generally used with these herbicides to overcome hard water antagonism and to increase herbicide activity. Greenhouse and field trials were conducted with commercial adjuvants that might substitute for AMS. The adjuvants wet evaluated in deionized water, tap water and deionized water containing 500 Mg/L CaCO3. In the absence of AMS, hard water reduced velvetleaf control with both herbicides. Hay varias plantas llamadas "velvetleaf", pero aquí se refiere a Abutilon theophrasti, de la familia de las malvas (Malvaceae). Se llama también "China jute" (es nativa del sur de Asia):

No sé si "malva de la India" es la misma planta. Aquí se identifica como Abutilon fruticosa [sic, por fruticosum]:

Y por cierto, la página de la FAO que he citado en mi última nota da "malva DE terciopelo" y "yute de LA China". Parece que existen diversas variantes.
