Ventas brutas es (a diferencia de ventas netas), las ventas sin haber deducido gastos tales como transporte al cliente, comisiones a vendedores o representantes, etc. Ya que las ventas brutas estan en la primera linea del Ganancias y Pérdidas, en inglés es común referirla como top-line sales.

Explanation:
Bottom line in English refers to the last line of a financial statement - found at the bottom of the page. The bottom line is earnings after all expenses have been paid.
Top line sales refers to the first line of an income statement - found at the top of the page. This indicates income from sales before expenses are paid.
One would expect that if top line sales are higher, then bottom line earnings would also be higher in general. That is not always the case though, because increased sales may increase the costs of doing business (more staff needed to meet the demand, for example).
